![]() People just running around like a bunch of ants, talking busy, looking busy, and acting busy. Sadly, what I see happening around me today is a lot of "busy work" as my grandmother used to say. I don’t need a memo or fifty managers overlooking my work to make sure I am clear on the goals, or that I am working diligently to achieve those goals. Get the people out of the burning building. People are in the building and the building is on fire. When faced with a burning building the goal is clear. They say that disasters bring the best out in mankind. Working holidays and weekends, working endless hours yet never feeling like you have accomplished anything. We are pushing the envelope on both environments and people. ![]() But the wind of sporadic change is having torrential effects on Corporate America. Blowing in the Wind was after all the mantra of that era. Maybe it’s the generation coming from the sixties that creates this mentality. Making the quote, “Those that stand for nothing, fall for everything” to be position rather than the understood warning. Unable to remain focused to a vision, or strategy companies seem led by whims of the wind. As such, I’d suggest the learning disability for today’s corporations, Attention Deficit Disorder. Peter Senge’s book, the Fifth Discipline, talks about the learning disabilities of an organization. That is true of any person, family, employee- company. ![]() As Solomon so wisely stated, “without a vision the people will perish”. I assert the disease that is killing the American worker- lack of vision at worst, at best the lack of clear communication of the vision and how they can help achieve it. Sadly, we have a lot of folks out there aimlessly wandering in the desert-hoping manna is going to show up again tomorrow, aka, their job. ![]() I'm talking about the purpose for your existence in the company. Can you translate how the most basic tasks you perform are critical to the overall success of your organization. Do you ever feel like you have no idea if what you do really affects the company you work for? Are you able to actually visualize the goal for the role you perform in your organization? I'm not talking about project goals, honestly I'm not even talking about good old KPIs that everyone has and can quote. ![]()
